Overview
The Yappa Knowledge Hub Slack bot helps teams capture, organize, and share knowledge directly within Slack. It provides a rich App Home dashboard, message shortcuts for saving conversations, and digest generation for periodic summaries.

Getting Started
Accessing the Bot
- App Home Tab — Click the Yappa Knowledge Hub app in your Slack sidebar
- Message Shortcut — Right-click (or long-press) any message > "Add to YapHub"
- Global Shortcut — Click the lightning bolt icon > "Quick Add to YapHub"
First Steps
- Open the App Home to see the dashboard
- Click "Toevoegen" (Add) to create your first knowledge item
- Browse thematic lists to see what's already available
App Home Dashboard
The App Home is the central hub for browsing and managing all knowledge.
View Modes
Switch between three views using the dropdown at the top:

Thematic Lists Section
Browse all categories. Each category card shows:
- Category name and icon
- Target groups
- Item count
Overflow Menu (right-click or three dots on each category):
add_knowledge— Add knowledge to this categorydigest— Generate a digest for this categorydistribute— Distribute existing digestssettings— Configure digest settingssubscribe/unsubscribe— Toggle subscription
Adding Knowledge
Via Message Shortcut
- Right-click (or long-press on mobile) any message
- Select "Add to YapHub"
- A modal opens with the message text pre-filled
- Add a title, select a category, add tags
- Click "Opslaan" (Save)
The bot extracts any URLs from the original message automatically.
Via Global Shortcut
- Click the lightning bolt icon in the message input area
- Select "Quick Add to YapHub"
- Fill in the form:
- Title (required)
- Content (required)
- Thematic List — select a category
- URL — optional link
- Tags — comma-separated keywords
- Click "Opslaan" (Save)
Confirmation
After saving, you receive a DM confirming the item was created:
✅ Kennis "Title" is opgeslagen.
Categories (Thematic Lists)
Categories organize knowledge by topic, team, or project.
Creating a Category
- From App Home, click "Toevoegen" or use the "Add List" action
- Fill in:
- Naam (Name) — required
- Beschrijving (Description) — optional
- Icon — emoji selector
- Click "Aanmaken" (Create)
Category Overflow Actions
Each category in the App Home has an overflow menu with:

Digest Generation
Create AI-powered summaries of knowledge items in a category.
Generating a Digest
- Open a category's overflow menu > "Generate Digest"
- Or use the "Digest" quick action on the home tab
- Select a category
- Configure options (days to look back, target group filter)
- Click "Genereren" (Generate)
The bot sends the digest to you as a DM. Generation is async — you'll get a confirmation immediately and the digest follows when ready.
Digest Format
Each digest includes:
- Category name and time period
- List of new items with previews
- AI summaries per target group
- Item count
Digest Distribution
Send generated digests to specific channels or subscribers.
Distributing
- Open a category's overflow menu > "Distribute"
- Or use the home tab "Distribute" action
- Select the category
- Choose a digest from the list
- Select target channels
- Confirm distribution
Category Settings
Configure automatic digest scheduling per category.
Settings Available

Accessing Settings
- Category overflow menu > "Settings"

Subscriptions
Subscribe to a category to automatically receive digests.
- Subscribe — Category overflow menu > "Subscribe"
- Unsubscribe — Category overflow menu > "Unsubscribe"
Keyboard Shortcuts
In modals:
Tab— Navigate between fieldsEnter— Submit (on single-line fields)Esc— Close modalShift + Enter— New line in multi-line fields
Privacy & Permissions
What the bot can see:
- Messages in channels where it's added
- Files shared in those channels
- User IDs and names (for attribution)
What the bot cannot see:
- Private DMs (unless you message it directly)
- Channels where it's not added
- Deleted messages or edit history
Required Scopes:

Troubleshooting
Modal won't open:
- Try refreshing Slack (Ctrl+R)
- Ensure the bot is installed in your workspace
Can't find knowledge:
- Check if you're in the right view mode (Lists vs Items vs Summaries)
- Try switching between categories
Getting errors:
- Check the DM from the bot for error details
- Contact your workspace admin
